Mike Sroka is a
highly respected photographer, author and educator. Originally from
the Chicago area, he is now based in Victoria, British Columbia. His
specialty is editorial and corporate photography "on location". For
more than 25 years he has been producing photographs for major
corporations, ad agencies, and magazines throughout North America.
With a portfolio that includes high energy subjects such as auto
racing and rodeo, he is the author of the book "Snowbirds - Behind the
Scenes With Canada's Air Demonstration Team."
It is an in-depth, behind the scenes look at the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. For three
years he traveled and flew with the Snowbirds as a Squadron
Photographer. The book is published by Fifth House Ltd.
Mike's fine art work can be found in several collections.
His landscapes of the American Southwest, funded by a major Canadian
grant, were the basis for a successful public exhibition, two major
magazine features, and a corporate mural project.
His portraits of the Siksika Blackfoot were used for a calendar, poster series, book cover,
and gallery exhibition.
He was also the senior photography instructor at the Alberta College
of Art & Design and has taught at the University of Calgary, Camosun
College, and Western Academy of Photography.
Mike continues to do commercial assignments, workshops and public
speaking. He is also working on two new books. One of them, "Canada:
One Photographer's View" is a look at the people and places that make
Canada such a special place to visit and live.
